<p>In a sea of traditional ice cream parlors that line Long Beach Island&#8217;s coastline, one family business stands apart by bringing the authentic taste of Hawaii to the Jersey Shore. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lbi_shaveice">Ohana Hau</a>, which means &#8220;family snow&#8221; in Hawaiian, represents something beautifully unique on LBI; a genuine fusion of island cultures that speaks to both wanderlust and deep local roots.</p>

<p>Their 16 signature combinations can be customized however customers desire, but the real magic lies in trying flavors that simply don&#8217;t exist anywhere else on LBI. Where else can you taste <a href="https://www.snackhawaii.com/blogs/news/li-hing-mui-facts-what-you-didn-t-know-about-li-hing-mui?srsltid=AfmBOooKPWpGsiI4dytFEPZlWv0L-vWc62dOOjs6owI_Wl7rpAeUiTaX" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">li hing mui</a> or experience the creamy perfection of <a href="https://onolicioushawaii.com/haupia/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">haupia</a>-topped tropical shave ice?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A 16-Year-Old&#8217;s Vision Comes to Life</h2>

<p>The story of Ohana Hau begins with Summer Sprague, a remarkable 16-year-old who carries the distinction of being a 14th generation LBI local. The Sprague family has been here in since the beginning, for over 300 years. The tradition of caring for LBI continues with Summer and her mission to bring something new to the island.</p>

<p>While most teenagers might dream of leaving their hometown, Summer found inspiration by bringing the world to hers. During family surf trips to <a href="https://www.gohawaii.com/islands/kauai" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kauai, Hawaii</a>, she discovered something magical: authentic Hawaiian shave ice.</p>

<p>&#8220;When I first tried it in Hawaii, I just thought it was the coolest thing ever,&#8221; Summer recalls. &#8220;I was like, man, I don&#8217;t know how I feel about ice cream anymore. This is so cool.&#8221; </p>

<p>That moment of pure enthusiasm sparked an idea that has now become a thriving family business in its third season. What struck Summer wasn&#8217;t just the refreshing treat itself, but how different it was from anything available on LBI. </p>

<p>&#8220;Since we always have a lot of ice cream shops around every corner, I wanted to do something different,&#8221; she explains. &#8220;I decided I wanted to incorporate shave ice into our town and see how it does.&#8221;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Family United by Surf and Snow</h2>

<p>The Sprague family&#8217;s connection to Hawaii runs deeper than typical vacation memories. Adam Sprague, who teaches science at the <a href="https://www.ocvts.org/mates" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ocean County Vocational Technical School&#8217;s Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science</a> program during the off-season, shares his daughter&#8217;s passion for surfing. Their annual trips to Kauai aren&#8217;t just getaways, they&#8217;re pilgrimages to perfect waves and authentic Hawaiian culture.</p>

<p>This shared love of surfing created the perfect foundation for understanding what makes Hawaiian shave ice special. Both father and daughter experienced firsthand how the island&#8217;s laid-back surf culture and the refreshing tradition of shave ice are beautifully intertwined. When they return to LBI&#8217;s surf breaks, they bring that Hawaiian spirit with them.</p>

<p>&#8220;We try to get there every year and sample as many places as we can,&#8221; Adam explains. &#8220;So absolutely, we&#8217;re always bringing something different and new.&#8221; This commitment to continuous discovery ensures that Ohana Hau remains not just authentic, but evolving.</p>

<p>Aimee Sprague, co-owner of <a href="https://www.ovationsdanceacademy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ovations Performing Arts Academy</a> in Waretown, completes this creative family trio. Together, they&#8217;ve built something that honors both their Hawaiian inspiration and their deep LBI heritage.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Authenticity in Every Shave</h2>

<p>What sets Ohana Hau apart isn&#8217;t just the novelty, it&#8217;s the commitment to authenticity. The family imports their machines directly from Hawaii, which were originally made in Japan. This connection honors the historical roots of shave ice, which Japanese sugar plantation workers introduced to Hawaii in the 1800s, sweetening it with sugar cane and local fruits.</p>

<p>Every element is crafted in-house with meticulous attention to detail. They create their own block ice using reverse osmosis filtered water, make all their syrups with no high fructose corn syrup, and offer gluten-free options. Their signature macadamia nut ice cream base features fresh roasted nuts, while their house-made haupia cream (coconut cream) adds that authentic Hawaiian touch.</p>

<p>The flavor combinations tell the story of their Hawaiian travels. Traditional options like lilikoi (passionfruit), lychee, and li hing mui (dried plum with a tangy twist) transport customers to the islands. Their number-one seller, the &#8220;Summer Breeze,&#8221; layers macadamia nut ice cream with mango, lilikoi, and guava, finished with haupia cream captures the essence of both Summer&#8217;s vision and their Kauai experiences.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">More Than Shave Ice: Building Community</h2>

<p>While the authentic Hawaiian flavors draw customers in, it&#8217;s the family&#8217;s genuine warmth that keeps them coming back. </p>

<p>&#8220;I think it&#8217;s really nice getting to know our customers and talking to them and the regulars,&#8221; Summer shares. &#8220;It&#8217;s just a really nice environment.&#8221;</p>

<p>This community-focused approach extends to their hiring practices. Many of their staff members are students from Aimee&#8217;s dance academy or friends of Summer&#8217;s. </p>

<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve had really the same staff since we&#8217;ve opened, which says a lot,&#8221; Adam notes proudly. &#8220;They pretty much just run the show all the time.&#8221;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Generations of Island Life</h2>

<p>What makes Ohana Hau&#8217;s story particularly special is how it represents the best of both island cultures. The family&#8217;s deep LBI roots, spanning over a dozen generations, give them an intimate understanding of what the local community craves. Their Hawaiian inspiration provides the perfect complement to LBI&#8217;s beach culture, offering something cooling and refreshing that feels right at home among the dunes and surf breaks.</p>

<p>The fact that this vision came from a teenager who chose to enhance her hometown speaks volumes about both Summer&#8217;s character and LBI&#8217;s enduring appeal. She saw an opportunity to bring something beautiful and authentic to the place she loves most.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Taste of Two Islands</h2>

<p>When you visit Ohana Hau, you&#8217;re not just getting a frozen treat, you&#8217;re experiencing the convergence of two island cultures and the realization of a young entrepreneur&#8217;s dream. Every spoonful carries the story of Hawaiian sugar plantations, Japanese innovation, Kauai surf trips, and generations of LBI family tradition.</p>

<p>In a world where authenticity can be hard to find, Ohana Hau offers something real: a family business built on genuine passion, cultural respect, and deep community roots. It&#8217;s proof that sometimes the most innovative thing you can do is honor tradition.</p>

<p>Visit <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lbi_shaveice" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ohana Hau</a> and taste the difference that authenticity makes. Whether you&#8217;re a longtime local or a first-time visitor, you&#8217;ll understand why this family&#8217;s Hawaiian-inspired vision has found such a perfect home on Long Beach Island. </p>

<p>Mahalo to the Sprague family for bringing a little piece of paradise to our beloved shore!</p>

All rental facilities provide safety equipment, basic boating instructions, and local knowledge about the best spots to visit.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tips for Your Boat Rental Experience</h2>

<p><strong>Book in Advance</strong>: Summer weekends fill up quickly, especially during peak season from June through August. Reserve your boat rental well in advance to ensure availability.</p>

<p><strong>Arrive Early</strong>: Most rental facilities offer brief orientations and safety briefings. Arriving early ensures you get the full experience and maximizes your time on the water.</p>

<p><strong>Bring Essentials</strong>: Pack sunscreen, water, snacks, and a waterproof bag for your belongings. Many rental locations sell ice and basic supplies, but bringing your own ensures you have everything you need.</p>

<p><strong>Know the Waters</strong>: Barnegat Bay is generally calm and perfect for beginners, while the ocean inlets offer more challenging conditions for experienced boaters. Ask your rental provider about the best areas for your skill level.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Making the Most of Your Day</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="538" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lbi-boat-rentals-1024x538.png" alt="Boat rentals LBI" class="wp-image-43787" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lbi-boat-rentals-1024x538.png 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lbi-boat-rentals-300x158.png 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lbi-boat-rentals-768x403.png 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lbi-boat-rentals-1000x525.png 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lbi-boat-rentals-990x520.png 990w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lbi-boat-rentals.png 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The beauty of boat rentals on LBI extends far beyond just being on the water. You can cruise off and enjoy the scenic coves, shores, and surroundings of Manahawkin Bay, drop anchor at secluded beaches, explore the numerous islands and channels, or simply enjoy a floating picnic with friends and family.</p>

<p>Whether you&#8217;re watching dolphins play in your wake, discovering hidden fishing spots, or simply enjoying the peaceful rhythm of island life from the water, boat rentals on Long Beach Island offer a unique perspective on this beloved coastal destination. From sunrise fishing trips to sunset cruises, your rental boat becomes the key to unlocking LBI&#8217;s most memorable experiences.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;ve ever dealt with <a href="https://berkleyfishing.eu/pages/berkley-gulp-scientific" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">gulp</a>, you know the struggle. That sticky, gooey mess that somehow manages to escape every container you put it in, leaving your tackle box, boat, and car looking like a disaster zone. It&#8217;s one of those fishing frustrations that we&#8217;ve all just accepted as part of the game, until now.</p>

<p>Twenty years ago, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/baitmule/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Baitmule&#8217;s</a> founder Ryan Sherwood was just like the rest of us, dealing with the same messy aftermath every time he used gulp. As someone who lived for fluke fishing season, he&#8217;d gotten used to the ritual of rigging up, selecting the perfect bait, and choosing between <a href="https://www.thescientificflyangler.com/post/exploring-fly-tying-materials-bucktails" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">bucktails</a>, <a href="https://www.wired2fish.com/tackle-tips/a-look-at-jigheads-and-how-they-differ" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">jigheads</a>, or teaser hooks. But no matter how great the fishing was, he&#8217;d always come home to the same problem: gulp residue covering everything.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Solution That Actually Works</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-containers-1024x1024.png" alt="Baitmule waterproof container for fishing" class="wp-image-43738" style="aspect-ratio:4/3;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-containers-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-containers-300x300.png 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-containers-150x150.png 150w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-containers-768x767.png 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-containers.png 1384w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Ryan&#8217;s frustration led him to discover a solution that the fishing world desperately needed. Baitmule is a container that&#8217;s actually, truly leakproof. Using medical-grade design, these containers don&#8217;t just claim to be leakproof; they deliver on that promise in ways that every angler who&#8217;s tried them can appreciate.</p>

<p>The containers are virtually unbreakable, which means they&#8217;ll hold up through whatever your fishing adventures throw at them. Whether you&#8217;re bouncing around in rough seas, hiking to a remote fishing spot, or just dealing with the general chaos of getting your gear ready, Baitmule containers are built to last.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">More Than Just Gulp Storage</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="924" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-leakproof-containers-1024x924.png" alt="Baitmule leakproof, durable containers for gulp" class="wp-image-43740" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-leakproof-containers-1024x924.png 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-leakproof-containers-300x271.png 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-leakproof-containers-768x693.png 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-leakproof-containers-1000x903.png 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-leakproof-containers-576x520.png 576w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-leakproof-containers.png 1378w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Here&#8217;s what makes Baitmule particularly smart: while they solved the gulp problem, they created something much more versatile. These containers protect anything you don&#8217;t want getting in or out, making them perfect for all your waterproof storage needs this summer.</p>

<p>Think about it: your phone, wallet, keys, electronics, snacks, first aid supplies, or anything else you need to keep dry and secure. Whether you&#8217;re on the boat, at the beach, kayaking, or just dealing with unexpected weather, having truly waterproof storage changes everything.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Local Availability</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1021" height="1024" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop-1021x1024.png" alt="Baitmule in local LBI tackle shops" class="wp-image-43741" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop-1021x1024.png 1021w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop-300x300.png 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop-150x150.png 150w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop-768x770.png 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop-1000x1003.png 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop-120x120.png 120w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop-519x520.png 519w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-tackle-shop.png 1384w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1021px) 100vw, 1021px" /></figure>

<p>You don&#8217;t have to order online and hope for the best. Baitmule containers are available right here in our area. You can find them at <a href="https://www.bhwmarinecenter.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BHW Bait And Tackle</a> in Manahawkin, <a href="https://creeksideoutfittersnj.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Creekside Outfitters</a> in Waretown, <a href="https://fishermansheadquarters.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fisherman&#8217;s Headquarters</a> in Ship Bottom, <a href="http://www.jinglesbaitandtackle.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jingle&#8217;s Bait And Tackle</a> in Beach Haven, <a href="https://surfcitybaitandtackle.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Surf City Bait And Tackle</a> in Surf City, and <a href="https://vansbaitandtackle.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Van&#8217;s Boat Rental</a> in Barnegat Light, among others.</p>

<p>The fact that these local tackle shops have embraced Baitmule tells you something about the product&#8217;s quality and reliability. These are the people who see every fishing gadget and container that comes through the door, and they&#8217;ve chosen to stock Baitmule because they know it works.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What People Are Saying</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="813" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-container-1024x813.png" alt="Baitmule waterproof containers" class="wp-image-43743" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-container-1024x813.png 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-container-300x238.png 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-container-768x610.png 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-container-1000x794.png 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-container-655x520.png 655w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-gulp-container.png 1380w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The reviews speak for themselves. Fisherman&#8217;s Headquarters calls it &#8220;the last gulp container you&#8217;ll ever buy! No leaks, no cracks, and no mess.&#8221; Montauk Fishing describes them as &#8220;by far the most durable, completely LEAKPROOF, storage solution I have found. You need to have this in your arsenal.&#8221;</p>

<p>When tackle shops and serious anglers are this enthusiastic about a product, it&#8217;s worth paying attention to.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Perfect Timing for Summer</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="756" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-waterproof-container-1024x756.png" alt="Waterproof beach container" class="wp-image-43744" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-waterproof-container-1024x756.png 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-waterproof-container-300x221.png 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-waterproof-container-768x567.png 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-waterproof-container.png 1894w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>With summer fishing season in full swing, now is the perfect time to upgrade your storage game. Whether you&#8217;re targeting fluke, stripers, or whatever else is biting, having containers that actually work eliminates one of those annoying variables that can mess up an otherwise perfect day on the water.</p>

<p>Beyond fishing, summer activities around LBI often involve water, sand, and situations where you need to keep things dry and secure. Beach days, boat trips, kayaking adventures, or even just dealing with sudden afternoon thunderstorms, waterproof storage that you can actually trust makes all the difference.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Bottom Line</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="alignleft size-medium"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="223" height="300" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-owner-223x300.png" alt="Owner of Baitmule in Manahawkin, NJ" class="wp-image-43742" style="aspect-ratio:3/4;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-owner-223x300.png 223w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-owner-760x1024.png 760w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-owner-768x1035.png 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-owner-386x520.png 386w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/baitmule-owner.png 972w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 223px) 100vw, 223px" /></figure></div>

<p>Baitmule containers represent something we don&#8217;t see often enough: a product that solves a real problem with a well-designed solution. Ryan&#8217;s twenty years of dealing with messy gulp containers led to something that benefits every angler, and the medical-grade construction means these containers work for far more than just bait storage.</p>

<p>In a world full of fishing gadgets that promise more than they deliver, it&#8217;s refreshing to find something that actually works as advertised. When you&#8217;re ready to stop dealing with leaky containers and messy storage solutions, Baitmule is available right here in our local tackle shops.</p>

<p>Sometimes the best fishing improvements are the ones that eliminate the problems you didn&#8217;t realize you were tolerating. This might just be one of those times.</p>

<p>The weather is turning, and honestly, it couldn&#8217;t have come at a better time. After what felt like an endless rainy season, we&#8217;re finally getting those warm, sunny days that make you remember why you live for summer on LBI. The water&#8217;s warming up, the boats are coming out of storage, and there&#8217;s this feeling in the air that the season is really about to begin.</p>

<p>What I love most about boating season here is how it opens up dining possibilities you just can&#8217;t get anywhere else. Instead of being tied to one spot for the day, you can actually cruise from restaurant to restaurant, enjoying both the journey and the destination. These waterfront spots have figured out that boaters want great food without having to give up their day on the water.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Boatyard</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="504" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/theboatyard-bar-marina-scaled-1-1024x504.jpg" alt="The Boatyard LBI dock and dine" class="wp-image-43713" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/theboatyard-bar-marina-scaled-1-1024x504.jpg 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/theboatyard-bar-marina-scaled-1-300x148.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/theboatyard-bar-marina-scaled-1-768x378.jpg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/theboatyard-bar-marina-scaled-1-1536x756.jpg 1536w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/theboatyard-bar-marina-scaled-1-2048x1008.jpg 2048w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/theboatyard-bar-marina-scaled-1-1000x492.jpg 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://theboatyardnj.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Website</a></p>

<p><em>2200 E Bay Ave</em> <em>Manahawkin, NJ 08050</em></p>

<p>The Boatyard&#8217;s location makes it incredibly convenient whether you&#8217;re launching from the mainland or already out exploring the bay. What started as a practical stop has become a destination in its own right, thanks to an atmosphere that&#8217;s genuinely worth the trip. They offer boat rentals, marina slips, and a boat up restaurant!</p>

<p>A great outdoor hangout that’s perfect for the kids (and even the dogs), you can dock your boat and spend the day right by the water playing games while enjoying good food and drinks. Choose from two food truck options, one with classic American food and another with fresh seafood. The drink menu hits all the essential draft beers, or you can choose a draft or canned cocktail.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Bird and Betty&#8217;s</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="819" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/bird-and-bettys-1024x819.jpg" alt="Bird and Betty's LBI waterfront restaurant bar" class="wp-image-43714" style="aspect-ratio:4/3;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/bird-and-bettys-1024x819.jpg 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/bird-and-bettys-300x240.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/bird-and-bettys-768x614.jpg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/bird-and-bettys-1536x1229.jpg 1536w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/bird-and-bettys-1000x800.jpg 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/bird-and-bettys-650x520.jpg 650w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/bird-and-bettys.jpg 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://www.birdandbettys.com/">Website</a></p>

<p><em>529 Dock Rd</em> <em>Beach Haven, NJ 08008</em></p>

<p>Beach Haven has always had its share of lively waterfront spots, but Bird and Betty&#8217;s has managed to strike that perfect balance between fun atmosphere and quality food. Though they don&#8217;t offer boat slips, they&#8217;re easily accessible from the options nearby and offer waterfront views on the deck and in the bar area. </p>

<p>For history lovers like me, you’ll be happy to know that Bird and Betty’s is located in the old Acme Hotel building, still standing from the early 1900s, and rumored to have been the oldest tavern in LBI. Today, they maintain a different part of history, bringing the summer vibes of the 1960s and 70s.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Opening at 3pm on weekdays and 12pm on weekends, you can enjoy fresh seafood, specialty pizza, quality cocktails and vintage games like skeeball (my personal favorite). Stay for the night and dance to live music of all genres while transported to an era that embodied revolution and self-discovery.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dock &amp; Claw</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="540" height="720" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/dock-and-claw.jpg" alt="Dock and Claw Clam Bar LBI waterfront restaurant" class="wp-image-43716" style="aspect-ratio:4/3;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/dock-and-claw.jpg 540w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/dock-and-claw-225x300.jpg 225w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/dock-and-claw-390x520.jpg 390w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://dockandclaw.com/">Website</a></p>

<p><em>506 Centre St</em> <em>Beach Haven, NJ 08008</em></p>

<p>Dock &amp; Claw is the continuation of The Clam Bar, which has been an LBI staple for more than 50 years. The new venture promises to continue the tradition of offering locally-sourced seafood that won’t break the bank. Plus, the boat access makes it easy to grab a bite without interrupting your day on the water.&nbsp;Though they don&#8217;t offer boat slips, you can dock at the nearby Boatyard and then head over. </p>

<p>They describe themselves as a “local hangout with great food and good vibes,” and I’d have to agree! With a “no cell phones” policy, it’s the perfect place to forget about life for a while and spend real quality time with the people you love. It’s also BYOB, so no need to worry about expensive cocktails running up the bill.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This year, they’ve landed on the Philly Inquirer’s list of <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/philly-tips/best-seafood-shacks-jersey-shore.html">Best Seafood Shacks at the Shore</a>, and the title is well-deserved.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Queen City Marina &amp; Kitchen</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="354" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/queen-city-marina.jpg" alt="Morrison’s Marina, now known as Queen City Marina" class="wp-image-43715" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/queen-city-marina.jpg 800w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/queen-city-marina-300x133.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/queen-city-marina-768x340.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://www.queencitymarina.com/">Website</a></p>

<p><em>525 2nd St</em> <em>Beach Haven, NJ 08008</em></p>

<p>Sometimes a day on the water deserves to end with something a bit more sophisticated. Whether you&#8217;re celebrating an anniversary, entertaining guests, or just want to treat yourself well, Queen City Marina &amp; Kitchen delivers that elevated experience without sacrificing the waterfront convenience. They offer day slips, overnight slips and a flexible option that easily fit into your plans. Note: slips need to be booked in advance. </p>

<p>Their catering capabilities and flexible event spaces make them particularly valuable for special occasions, but the everyday dining experience is equally impressive. The attention to detail in both the food and the waterside atmosphere creates something genuinely special. The best part? They serve breakfast all day!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Polly&#8217;s Dock and Clam House</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="533" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Long-Island-Beach-Wedding-Reception-8-22_of_78_1651015583.jpeg_width1600optimizemediumheight480fitcoverdpr2.jpg" alt="Polly's Dock and Clamhouse LBI dock and dine" class="wp-image-43719" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Long-Island-Beach-Wedding-Reception-8-22_of_78_1651015583.jpeg_width1600optimizemediumheight480fitcoverdpr2.jpg 800w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Long-Island-Beach-Wedding-Reception-8-22_of_78_1651015583.jpeg_width1600optimizemediumheight480fitcoverdpr2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Long-Island-Beach-Wedding-Reception-8-22_of_78_1651015583.jpeg_width1600optimizemediumheight480fitcoverdpr2-768x512.jpg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Long-Island-Beach-Wedding-Reception-8-22_of_78_1651015583.jpeg_width1600optimizemediumheight480fitcoverdpr2-780x520.jpg 780w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Long-Island-Beach-Wedding-Reception-8-22_of_78_1651015583.jpeg_width1600optimizemediumheight480fitcoverdpr2-272x182.jpg 272w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://pollysdock.square.site/">Website</a></p>

<p><em>12 Northwest Ave</em> <em>Beach Haven, NJ 08008</em></p>

<p>In an area that&#8217;s seen plenty of change over the years, places like Polly&#8217;s represent something valuable, continuity. They&#8217;ve been serving the boating community for generations, which speaks to their understanding of what waterfront dining should be. </p>

<p>The combination of boat rentals and dining makes practical sense, but it&#8217;s the consistency and authenticity that keep people coming back. Sometimes the best recommendation is simply that a place has been doing things right for longer than most of us have been boating these waters.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Parker&#8217;s Garage &amp; Oyster Saloon</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/parkers-garage.jpeg" alt="Parker's Garage LBI" class="wp-image-43721" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/parkers-garage.jpeg 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/parkers-garage-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/parkers-garage-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/parkers-garage-1000x667.jpeg 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/parkers-garage-780x520.jpeg 780w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/parkers-garage-272x182.jpeg 272w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://www.parkersgaragelbi.com/">Website</a></p>

<p><em>116 Northwest Ave</em> <em>Beach Haven, NJ 08008</em></p>

<p>Parker&#8217;s Garage brings something special to the Beach Haven waterfront scene with their own boat slips and seating for up to 180 guests. What sets them apart is their commitment to recreating that golden era of LBI boating culture while delivering sophisticated food that matches the ambiance.</p>

<p>Their shareable menu features standout dishes like lobster corn dogs and mussels toast, all served in a huge open-air space filled with old maritime decor. The fact that they&#8217;re BYOB gives you the flexibility to bring exactly what you want to drink, whether that&#8217;s a carefully chosen wine or your favorite local craft beer. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between nostalgic charm and contemporary dining expectations.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sun Harbor Seafood and Grill</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="485" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sun-harbor-lbi-1024x485.jpg" alt="Sun Harbor dock and dine LBI" class="wp-image-43722" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sun-harbor-lbi-1024x485.jpg 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sun-harbor-lbi-300x142.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sun-harbor-lbi-768x364.jpg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sun-harbor-lbi-1000x473.jpg 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sun-harbor-lbi.jpg 1428w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://www.sunharborseafoodandgrill.com/">Website</a></p>

<p><em>451 E Bay Ave</em> <em>Barnegat, NJ 08005</em></p>

<p>Sun Harbor makes it easy with dock and dine slips available right at their waterfront location. This spot has built a solid reputation among boaters for reliable food and service, making it a dependable choice when you want to combine a day on the water with a satisfying meal.</p>

<p>The straightforward approach to waterfront dining here means you can count on them for exactly what you&#8217;re looking for, good seafood, convenient docking, and a welcoming atmosphere that doesn&#8217;t overcomplicate things.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Waterfront</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="530" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/the-waterfront-forked-river-1024x530.jpg" alt="The Waterfront dock and dine LBI" class="wp-image-43723" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/the-waterfront-forked-river-1024x530.jpg 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/the-waterfront-forked-river-300x155.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/the-waterfront-forked-river-768x397.jpg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/the-waterfront-forked-river-1536x794.jpg 1536w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/the-waterfront-forked-river-1000x517.jpg 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/the-waterfront-forked-river.jpg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><a href="http://www.thewaterfrontnj.com/">Website</a></p>

<p><em>361 East Lacey Road</em> <em>Forked River, NJ 08731</em></p>

<p>The Waterfront delivers on its name with genuine waterfront dining that feels both accessible and authentic. Their approach to boat-accessible dining focuses on the fundamentals, fresh seafood, comfortable seating, and views that remind you why you love being on the water. They offer both in-water boat slips and outdoor rack storage. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s the kind of place that works equally well for a casual lunch after a morning of fishing or a more relaxed dinner as the sun starts to set. The simplicity of their approach often turns out to be exactly what a day on the water calls for.</p>

<p><em>41 Oyster Creek Rd Leeds Point, NJ 08220</em></p>

<p>Located in the marshes of Otter Pond, off Oyster Creek and the Great Bay, this dock and dine seafood restaurant sits in one of New Jersey&#8217;s most unique dining locations. The journey to get there by boat is part of the experience, you&#8217;re truly getting away from the crowds and into the quieter waters that many visitors never see.</p>

<p>This old-time South Jersey seafood restaurant offers water views and an authentic connection to the area&#8217;s maritime heritage. The slightly more remote location means you&#8217;re dining in an environment that feels genuinely untouched by the more commercial aspects of shore dining.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>B2 in Bayville</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="750" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/b2-lbi.webp" alt="B2 dock and dine in bayville" class="wp-image-43726" style="aspect-ratio:4/3;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/b2-lbi.webp 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/b2-lbi-300x225.webp 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/b2-lbi-768x576.webp 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/b2-lbi-693x520.webp 693w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>

<p><em>125 Bayview Ave Bayville, NJ 08721</em></p>

<p>B2 in Bayville offers a more contemporary take on waterfront dining, with a menu that balances classic shore favorites with modern preparations. Their boat-accessible location makes them a solid choice when you want something that feels both familiar and fresh.</p>

<p>Their menu is based on a &#8220;garden to table&#8221; concept, sourcing local ingredients with an American and Mediterranean influence. Their known for their barrel-aged cocktails, which use fresh, in-season fruits. The deck is enormous, with space to sit down and eat or hang out at the tiki bar while overlooking the water. They also have a pool! </p>

<p><em>905 Bay Boulevard Bayville NJ 08721</em></p>

<p>MJ&#8217;s in Bayville has built a loyal following among local boaters for their consistent quality and welcoming atmosphere. It&#8217;s the kind of place where you can count on good food and service without any pretense, sometimes that&#8217;s exactly what a day on the water calls for. There are only about 5 boat slips available, but there are nearby options if it fills up. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sunset Seafood of Tuckerton</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="639" height="640" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sunset-seafood-tuckerton.jpg" alt="Sunset Seafood in Tuckerton dock and dine" class="wp-image-43730" style="aspect-ratio:4/3;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sunset-seafood-tuckerton.jpg 639w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sunset-seafood-tuckerton-300x300.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sunset-seafood-tuckerton-150x150.jpg 150w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sunset-seafood-tuckerton-120x120.jpg 120w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/sunset-seafood-tuckerton-519x520.jpg 519w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://sunsetseafoodnj.com/">Website</a></p>

<p><em>101 Parker Road Tuckerton, New Jersey</em></p>

<p>Sunset Seafood&#8217;s recently opened Tuckerton location rounds out the options with their focus on fresh, local seafood served in a relaxed waterfront setting. The slightly quieter location makes it perfect for those times when you want to escape the busier areas but still enjoy excellent food with water views. BYOB and with waterfront dining from both their indoor and outdoor sections, enjoy live music every Friday after you dock (by reservation). </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Making the Most of the Season</strong></h2>

<p>The real advantage of LBI&#8217;s boat-accessible dining scene is the flexibility it provides. You can plan a progressive dining experience, moving from breakfast at one location to lunch at another, with plenty of time on the water in between. The protected bay waters make this kind of restaurant hopping comfortable for boaters of all experience levels.</p>

<p>Timing your visits around sunset adds another dimension to the experience. There&#8217;s something particularly satisfying about watching the day end from the deck of a waterfront restaurant with your boat bobbing gently at the dock nearby.</p>

<p>Just remember that peak season means calling ahead, especially for weekend visits. These restaurants welcome boaters, but a quick call can save you the disappointment of arriving to find no available dock space.</p>

<p>With weather like this and water conditions that couldn&#8217;t be better, it’s time to take advantage of what might be the best part of living near the water!</p>

<p></p>

<p>When you&#8217;re standing on the beach at LBI, watching the waves roll in and breathing that salt air, it&#8217;s easy to take for granted that this incredible coastline will always be there for us. The truth is, our beaches face real threats from plastic pollution to water quality issues, to the growing impacts of climate change. That&#8217;s where the <a href="https://www.surfrider.org" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.surfrider.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Surfrider Foundation</a> comes in, and their work matters more than ever for places like Long Beach Island.</p>

<p>For 40 years, the Surfrider Foundation has been doing something remarkable: turning love for the ocean into action that protects it. What began as a small group of surfers fighting overdevelopment and pollution in Malibu has grown into one of the world&#8217;s most effective coastal protection organizations. Today, they&#8217;re working on more than 100 campaigns across the country, and since 2006, they&#8217;ve turned over 900 of those campaigns into real victories for our coastlines.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Join Surfrider Foundation for International Surfing Day</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day-1024x1024.webp" alt="International Surfing Day on June 21st in Ventnor by Surfrider Foundation" class="wp-image-43699" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day-1024x1024.webp 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day-300x300.webp 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day-150x150.webp 150w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day-768x768.webp 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day-1000x1000.webp 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day-120x120.webp 120w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day-520x520.webp 520w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/international-surfing-day.webp 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p><a href="https://www.surfrider.org/pages/international-surfing-day" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">International Surfing Day</a>, which Surfrider established in 2005, has grown into their largest global event, with more than 150 events worldwide in 2024. Now in its 21st year, it&#8217;s become a celebration not just of surfing, but of healthy, accessible beaches for everyone. The message resonates whether you&#8217;re a surfer, a swimmer, a fisherman, or someone who simply loves walking the beach at sunset.</p>

<p>On Saturday, June 21st, in Ventnor, NJ, Surfrider is hosting an exciting beach clean up with FREE surf lessons, yoga, pilates, drum circle, live music and more! Located at Cambridge Ave + the boardwalk/north-side of the fishing pier, volunteers will help rid the beach of harmful pollution while enjoying an amazing day of relaxing and vibing.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Programs That Make a Real Difference</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj-1024x1024.jpg" alt="Beach cleanup in LBI with Surfrider Foundation" class="wp-image-43700" style="aspect-ratio:4/3;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj-300x300.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj-150x150.jpg 150w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj-768x768.jpg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj-1000x1000.jpg 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj-120x120.jpg 120w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj-520x520.jpg 520w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/beach-cleanup-nj.jpg 1360w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>The scope of Surfrider&#8217;s work is impressive, but what I find most compelling is how practical and community-focused their approach is. Take their <a href="https://www.surfrider.org/programs/blue-water-task-force" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Blue Water Task Force</a>, it&#8217;s the largest volunteer-run beach water testing program in the country. Volunteers regularly test water quality at beaches and alert communities when there are problems, because as they put it, &#8220;no one should get sick from a day at the beach.&#8221; For those of us who spend our summers in and around LBI&#8217;s waters, that kind of monitoring provides real peace of mind.</p>

<p>Their <a href="https://www.surfrider.org/pages/beach-cleanup-activist-guide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">beach cleanup programs</a> and <a href="https://www.surfrider.org/programs/rise-above-plastics" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rise Above Plastics program</a> tackle the plastic pollution issue head-on through education, community science, and policy campaigns. It&#8217;s not just about picking up trash, though that&#8217;s important too, it&#8217;s about understanding where the pollution comes from and working to stop it at the source.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.surfrider.org/programs/ocean-friendly-restaurants" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ocean Friendly Restaurants program</a> is particularly relevant to our LBI dining scene. By working with restaurants to reduce single-use plastics, they&#8217;re creating change one meal at a time. When you think about how many restaurants line our coastline and how many meals are served to visitors each summer, the potential impact is significant.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Beyond the Beach</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="682" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens-1024x682.jpg" alt="Planting ocean friendly gardens at the Jersey Shore with Surfrider Foundation" class="wp-image-43701" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens-300x200.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens-768x512.jpg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens-1000x666.jpg 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens-781x520.jpg 781w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens-272x182.jpg 272w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ocean-friendly-gardens.jpg 1620w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>What I appreciate about Surfrider&#8217;s approach is that they understand coastal protection extends far beyond the waterline. Their <a href="https://www.surfrider.org/programs/ocean-friendly-gardens" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ocean Friendly Gardens program</a> provides sustainable landscaping solutions that reduce polluted runoff, which is something that directly impacts the water quality we enjoy when we&#8217;re swimming, boating, or fishing around LBI.</p>

<p>Their <a href="https://www.surfrider.org/programs/climate-action" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Climate Action Program</a> connects volunteers to restoration projects that help protect coastlines from erosion while supporting local ecosystems. Given the challenges our barrier island faces from storms and sea level rise, this kind of work is essential for preserving the LBI we know and love for future generations.</p>

<p>Even their <a href="https://www.surfrider.org/programs/ocean-friendly-hotels" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ocean Friendly Hotels program</a> makes sense when you consider how many visitors our area hosts each summer. By helping hotels reduce single-use plastics and make more sustainable choices, they&#8217;re multiplying the positive impact across the entire hospitality industry.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>A Movement Worth Joining</strong>: How You Can Make a Difference</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach-1024x1024.jpg" alt="Plastics cleaned up from the beach in New Jersey " class="wp-image-43702" style="aspect-ratio:4/3;object-fit:cover" srcset="https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach-300x300.jpg 300w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach-150x150.jpg 150w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach-768x768.jpg 768w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach-1000x1000.jpg 1000w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach-120x120.jpg 120w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach-520x520.jpg 520w, https://lbisummer.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/plastic-on-beach.jpg 1360w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>The Surfrider Foundation&#8217;s mission centers on five key areas: plastic reduction, ocean protection, beach access, coasts and climate, and clean water. These aren&#8217;t abstract environmental concepts, they&#8217;re the foundation of everything that makes coastal living special.</p>

<p>Here are all the ways to get involved:</p>

<li><a href="https://www.surfrider.org/action">Contact your local officials&nbsp;</a></li>
</ul>

<p>The beauty of Surfrider&#8217;s work is that it&#8217;s built on the idea that we&#8217;re all part of the solution. You don&#8217;t need to be an environmental scientist or policy expert to contribute. You can volunteer for beach cleanups, support their campaigns by contacting local officials, or make a donation to support their ongoing work.</p>

<p>For those of us who call LBI home or spend significant time here, getting involved with Surfrider feels like a natural extension of caring about this place. After all, protecting what we love isn&#8217;t just good policy,  it&#8217;s personal.</p>

<p>When you&#8217;re enjoying everything LBI has to offer this summer, remember that the clean water, healthy beaches, and thriving coastal ecosystem we treasure don&#8217;t happen by accident. They exist because people care enough to protect them. The Surfrider Foundation has been leading that fight for four decades, and their work ensures that future generations will be able to experience the same magic we do when we&#8217;re here on the water.</p>

<p>That&#8217;s something worth supporting, one wave at a time!</p>

<p>The best part about Bahama Llama was that they offer allergy free empanadas! So, my Soy Free, Gluten Free and Peanut Free family were comfortable enough to order two dozen mixed empanadas to enjoy together. They were all fabulous!</p>
